FAQ

What is the purpose of growin?
growin aims to serve as a technological aid for the healthy growth of our children by providing a free and confidential ecosystem for the purposes of well-being and health in the family and R&D+i in the scientific and medical field.

What can i use growin for?
growin is a unique solution to unify all medical measures and information of your children, to continuously monitor and compare their evolution with the provision of personalized medical advice. It is also ideal for tracking possible eventualities or irregularities that may occur in growth and / or weight, both excess and default, as it helps control overweight, prevent childhood and juvenile obesity and offers free advice Personalized and expert recommendations to improve our habits in terms of food and nutrition, as well as physical exercise and healthy lifestyles.

What main features include growin?
graphical representation of all anthropometric parameters included, free personalized advice for each new measure, assignment of high quality images for each new board, scientific-mathematical prediction algorithm of the following measure, sending reports, graphs and advice via email and social networks, use of reference population percentiles, depending on the region or country to which we belong, using the same standard and standard reference values used by pediatricians in Health Centers, creating as many child profiles as necessary, continuous on-line follow-up of children aged 0 to 18 years, possibility to edit information already entered, follow-up of progression with the option "Report of measures", etc.

What data growin?
Growin collects the medical data associated with the growth of our children (size, weight, body mass index and abdominal perimeter, cephalic perimeter), as well as all information strictly necessary for the users (name, date And place of birth, sex, e-mail address, etc.).

Who accesses growin data?
Only the users themselves can access their stored data. Growin providers and collaborators will have access to pseudo-anonymised data and data, if unavoidable, only in connection with the support, maintenance, operation and administration of the software and databases. In addition, users themselves will be able to communicate or transfer data anonymously and in aggregate form to third parties involved in the healthy growth of our children. Growin suppliers and collaborators or their affiliates may also have access to anonymised and aggregated data for the purpose of analyzing trends, developing studies and analyzes, etc.

What is the treatment of growin data?
Once encrypted, all data is transferred to the central database (located in the cloud and protected complying with all the requirements of the Official Data Protection Act, LOPD) for the purpose of storage. Before transmission to the database, the names and identifiers of the users and their children will be coded so that the data collected will be identified with a code (pseudo-anonymised). The transfer will be made to a European Union country where pseudo-anonymised data will be stored in a database according to the European Directive 95/46 / EC. All data will be stored in a pseudo-anonymised and encrypted format and will not be transferred or communicated to any third party. All data collected will be stored electronically in an encrypted database. Consequently, all data incorporated into the ecosystem are property of growin and will be used solely and exclusively for the purposes described.

Can I lose my data?
Even if you update the version of the application, you will never lose the data stored and, in addition, you can send whenever you want all the data as a report by email, share it by social networks, etc. Soon, you will also be able to back up your entire information space.

Who supports growin scientifically?
The prestigious medical and scientific team of the Pediatric Endocrinology Service of the Miguel Servet University Hospital (HUMS) in Zaragoza, the Andrea Prader Center, and the Spanish Association of Pediatrics (AEP).

Who guarantees growin technologically?
The prestigious engineering, design and technology team of the HOWLab group of R&D+i consolidated and recognized by the Government of Aragon within the Engineering Research Institute of Aragon (I3A) of the University of Zaragoza (UZ).

Who guarantees growin business?
The scientific and technological group that constitutes the multinational company Merck, founded in 1668 and currently the oldest chemical and pharmaceutical company in the world, as leader in the fields of Healthcare, Life Sciences and Performance Materials.

What do I need to know about weight?
Weight is a very easy measure to obtain, since both at home and in pharmacies, it is very easy to find a scale. However, we do not recommend weighing ourselves daily, since this would be very variable, so we consider it best to observe the changes over a longer period of time; It would be recommended to weigh them every month while they are breastfeeding and every 2-3 months thereafter.

What do I need to know about size - length - height?
You will notice that until the 2 years, the children are measured lying down, obtaining their length, while from that age they are measured standing, measure called size. The child's growth is a fundamental parameter to evaluate their health so it is important to monitor each month while they are breastfeeding and every 2-3 months thereafter. You will notice that as they grow older, the controls in the Health Center are spaced out, so in those periods, it is very important to take some additional steps to check that everything is going well!

What do I need to know about the Body Mass Index (BMI)?
The BMI is calculated according to the formula IMC = weight (kg) / size2 (m2). It is a parameter that growin will calculate directly when entering the weight and height of your children. It is a fundamental parameter for the assessment of the weight, since it relates the weight we have as a function of height, so it serves to detect problems of both excess and weight defect. Therefore, we recommend that you always introduce both weight and height, in order to obtain the best recommendations of your child.

What do I need to know about the abdominal perimeter?
The abdominal perimeter is a very useful measure, but it is not performed routinely in the Health Center's consultations. The way to measure it is as simple as having an inelastic tape measure (typical of sewers) at home and measuring the abdominal circumference of our children. To do this we must put the child standing with the feet together, the arms at the sides and the relaxed abdomen, surrounding the abdomen with the tape at the navel level, without pressing, making the measurement when expelling the air. It is a very useful parameter to evaluate the abdominal fat that we have and to guide our recommendations, especially in cases of excess weight.

What are percentiles (p)?
You will be very accustomed to hearing the term percentile (p) in your Pediatrician. The percentiles place the measures of our children in relation to the others. Thus we consider that we are within the expected if the measure in question is between p3 and p97, which will mean that evolution is adequate. The figure we get indicates the percentage of children who have a value below that of our child, for example, if we get a p20 it will mean that 20% of children have a value for that measure below of ours.

How are percentile plots interpreted?
The percentile charts used by pediatricians are often misunderstood by mothers and fathers. So in growin we offer both a "classic" view of these percentiles, and a more accessible and fun view for everyone. From the graphs, the application allows to compare the evolution in the growth of the child with the percentiles of your reference population, depending on the region or country to which we belong. Comparisons are provided for weight, height, body mass index (BMI), and abdominal circumference.

How do councils and notifications work?
Notifications will be differentiated according to the characteristics of each child, their progression and continued growth and, very important, depending on the data at birth since it is known that children born with a low weight or length (Small for The Gestational Age, SGA) present a growth, weight gain and development different from those born with adequate weight and length (Adequate for Gestational Age, AGA).

How do the predictions of the next steps work?
Growin provides reliable predictions, depending on growth ranges, percentiles, historical progression, and short-term trends of how each child's evolution should be in terms of the evolution of their anthropometric parameters in a certain period of time.
